Guide to preparing yourself for entrance exam properly

The entrance exam of 2017 is just behind us and yet we are already in full preparation together with our students for 2018. Because did you know that 300u preparation is the Olympic minimum? Rebus shares her crucial tips in this blog to pass the entrance exam.

Preparation begins the year before

It may sound a bit exaggerated, but with 20 years of experience we dare to say that the preparation for the 2018 entrance exam starts in September 2017. Why? Four reasons:

  • There will be a great amount of subject material together in the exam, which takes you on average 300 hours to really master them. In combination with school and leisure time, you therefore need a large period to plan and study everything properly.
  • It gives you the time to remember everything effectively. Some students have made it by blocking everything in a short time, but that ‘knowledge’ is left to nothing after a few days or weeks, let alone years!
  • In order not to get paralyzed by the doubt and the time pressure that the multiple choice questions bring about, you have to know the subject matter very well and be able to practice it. You cannot manage the latter in a few weeks.

From 2018 there is only one exam moment, so no second chance in August. In addition, Minister Credits has already announced that everyone should know on 1 August whether or not to start in medicine or dentistry. The chances are that the admission test will be somewhere in early July. Very shortly after the final exams, for humanities and university students, which makes the need for early preparation even more important?

Start with the holes in your knowledge

The entrance exam assesses your knowledge of secondary education (2nd and 3rd degree). In the best case, something has stuck there, but there will be some work to be done anyway. By building up your planning on the basis of the pieces of subject matter that you do not yet know, the so-called gaps, you work efficiently and you do not end up with surprises at the end. At Rebus it is called the hectictest.

Studying in three phases

How should you actually learn? Well, in three phases actually. Repeat theory, make basic exercises and solve historical exam series. We deal with this as follows:

First we will go over the entire subject matter for the 4 science subjects (mathematics, fyisca, chemistry and biology). You study all theoretical concepts, definitions, formulas and calculation rules.

Then you make basic exercises so that you regain enough insight and calculation skills to make new exercises on the entrance examination.

Once you have mastered everything well, we test your knowledge on the basis of the historical exam questions. Without a calculator and with a time limit, like on the real exam!
